The types of wagers that are available are determined by, and at the discretion of, the track itself. Some wager types are seasonal, and will not be listed among the detailed options below.

Below are the most common wager types you will find at OTB:

Win
Your horse must come in first.

Place
Your horse must come in first or second.

Show
Your horse must come in first, second, or third.

Exacta
You pick which horses you think will come in first and second place in that exact order.

Quinella
You pick which horses you think will come in first and second place in either order.

Trifecta
You pick which horses you think will come in first, second, and third place in exact order.

Superfecta
You pick which horses you think will come in first, second, third, and fourth place in exact order.

Exactas, Trifectas, and Superfectas have additional options available for selection.

  • Box:
Horses you have selected can come in any order. (An Exacta Box is the same as a Quinella wager, but may have a separate pool.)

Example: a Superfecta Box 2, 4, 5, & 7, you will win if your horses finished in the top four positions, no matter the order. Meaning, a final race finish of 5, 7, 4, and 2 would still result in a winning wager even though it was not the precise finishing order.

  • KeyBox:
One horse is selected to finish first with all others selected are able to finish in any order.

Example: with a Superfecta Key 2, with 4, 5, & 7, you will win if #2 finishes first and your other horses finish second, third and fourth, in any order.

  • Wheel:
Allows for multiple horse selections to finish in any given position. The number of possible combinations will vary according to the total number of entries in the race.

    Example: A Superfecta Wheel of 1, 4, with 1, 4, 7, with 1, 4, 6, 7, with 1, 4, 6, 7, 10-- means that in order to win: Horse(s) 1 or 4 must finish first, while horse(s) 1, 4, or 7 must finish second and horse(s) 1, 4, 6, or 7 must finish third, with horse(s) 1, 4, 6, 7, or 10 finishing in fourth. The availability to include multiple selections is a way for users to hedge their bets on race finishes.

Daily Double
You pick which horses will come in first in two consecutive races.

Pick 3
You pick which horses will come in first in three consecutive races.

Pick 4
You pick which horses will come in first in four consecutive races.

Pick 5
You pick which horses will come in first in five consecutive races.

Pick 6
You pick which horses will come in first in six consecutive races.
